Feeling safe to talk depends on knowing what happens to what you say. Here is how confidentiality works in this practice, in plain words.
What stays private
What you say in sessions stays between us. I don’t share it with your family, your employer or your doctor unless you ask me to and agree in writing.
Notes and records
I keep brief, factual notes of each session, stored securely. You can ask to see what I hold about you.
Supervision
Like most therapists, I talk through my work with an experienced colleague in regular clinical supervision. I never share names or identifying details there.
The limits
There are a few situations where the law or my professional duty may require me to share information: if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, if a child or vulnerable adult may be at risk, or if a court orders it. Where it’s possible and safe, I’ll talk to you first.
Questions are welcome
We go through all of this at the start of our first session, and you can ask about it at any time.
General information, not advice for your situation.
