Online or in person: how to choose

Many people assume therapy in a room is the “real thing” and online sessions are second best. In practice, both can work well, and plenty of people switch between them.

Reasons people choose the room

Some people find it easier to settle somewhere that isn’t home. The journey there and back can become useful time to think. And if home is busy or doesn’t feel private, a separate room removes that worry.

Reasons people choose online

Online sessions save travel time and fit more easily around work and family. Some people find it easier to open up from their own space. They can also keep therapy going through a move, an illness or a busy season.

What online needs

A private space where you won’t be overheard, headphones if you can, and a steady connection. Some people sit in a parked car or take a walk to find privacy. It’s worth testing your setup before the first session.

You can change your mind

Starting online doesn’t lock you in. Many people begin one way and change once they know what suits them. If you’re unsure, try one and talk about how it felt at the next session.
